Zimbabwe v Samoa tips: Samoa's attack gets the nod
Samoa are our selection against Zimbabwe in Wakefield. They scored 37 in their last July game, while the Sables managed 15 and 19 in their final two defeats. Samoa's defence remains a concern after a one-point loss to Romania, but their stronger attacking returns give them the edge.

Zimbabwe finished close, but still without a win
Zimbabwe lost 23-19 to Canada after defeats of 36-26 against Tonga and 31-15 against the USA. The final margin was their smallest, but the attack still fell short of the total needed.
Conceding 23 against Canada was a defensive improvement on the opening two matches. Zimbabwe now need to combine that with a larger attacking contribution, having scored fewer than 20 in successive games.
Samoa's 38-37 defeat by Romania makes the task clear. They can supply considerably more points than Zimbabwe's latest two opponents if the Sables let the match become open.
Samoa recovered their scoring against Romania
Samoa began with a 66-19 win over Hong Kong China, then lost 33-12 to Georgia before the one-point Romanian defeat. Their attack returned against Romania even though the result remained disappointing.
The Georgia result is the clearest example of Samoa being contained. Georgia won all three games, and Zimbabwe have not yet shown comparable control across a full match.
Samoa's defence is the opening for the Sables. Conceding 38 to Romania left them vulnerable despite scoring freely, so Zimbabwe have reason to attack rather than approach this solely as a containment job.
Edward Sigauke gave the Sables a finishing edge in July, scoring against both Tonga and the USA. He joined Harlequins in August.

Wakefield removes the home-ground assumption
Belle Vue hosts this fixture in England. Zimbabwe are the first-named team, but the match is not being played in Harare or Bulawayo.
That venue matters to the comparison. The Sables cannot be credited with familiar home conditions simply because their name appears first on the fixture list.
We expect Samoa to win through the stronger attack. Zimbabwe's closer finish against Canada suggests improvement, but scoring 15 and 19 leaves them a substantial gap to bridge against this opponent.
