How we test and rate bookmakers. Last updated 2026-07-26.
Every rating on MzansiWins comes from a real account opened by a named human on a real SA-issued ID. Nothing on this site is scored from a press release or an operator-supplied fact sheet. This page explains exactly what we test, how we score it, and what can get an operator delisted.
The scoring formula
We score 100 points across seven weighted buckets. The published rating is the weighted mean, expressed to one decimal place.
| Bucket | Weight | What we score |
|---|---|---|
| Licensing and safety | 20% | Licence verification, FICA rigour, complaint route, dispute resolution history |
| Odds and markets | 20% | Odds tested across 30 sample bets vs the OpticOdds median. Market depth across PSL, EPL, rugby, cricket, and horse racing |
| Bonuses and promotions | 15% | Welcome bonus expected value after rollover. Ongoing promo cadence. Reload consistency |
| Payments | 15% | Deposit and withdrawal spread. Timed withdrawal tests to bank account, EFT, and voucher. Fee transparency |
| Mobile experience | 15% | Live 390px viewport pass. Data-free URL if operator claims it. Bet slip stability. App store rating cross-check |
| Support | 10% | Live chat median response time (measured). Phone answered within three minutes. Email replied to within 24 hours |
| Responsible gambling | 5% | Self-exclusion pathway. Deposit limits accessible. NRGP link visible in footer |
The named test rig
Every review is tied to a specific tester run. Our current active testers are named on the authors page. Each test run captures:
- Tester name, test start date, test end date.
- Device (make, model, OS) used for the mobile test.
- Screenshot bank of the signup flow, FICA upload, first deposit, first withdrawal, and one full bet placement.
- Redacted evidence of the deposit and withdrawal (amount, timestamp, method, reference number). Personally identifying information masked before publication.
- Live-chat and phone-support transcripts (paraphrased, not verbatim, to respect operator staff privacy).
Deposit and withdrawal test
Every review includes at least one real deposit and one real withdrawal. Test deposits are typically between R100 and R500 depending on operator minimum. Withdrawals are tested to at least two different payment rails per operator (typically bank EFT plus one alternative). We record the elapsed time from withdrawal request to funds landing.
What can get an operator delisted
Delisting is the strongest signal we can give a reader. It has happened. It will happen again. The four grounds for delisting are:
- Licence lapse, suspension, or revocation by a South African provincial board.
- Confirmed refusal to process a withdrawal from a compliant, FICA-verified account within the operator's own stated timelines.
- Fabricated promotions where the advertised terms do not match the terms honoured on the account.
- Evidence of unlicensed cross-border acceptance of South African residents by an offshore brand.
A delisting is logged on our corrections policy page.
Refresh cycle
- Top 10 operators. Full re-test every 90 days. Bonus and promo copy refreshed monthly.
- All others. Full re-test every 180 days. Licence check monthly against the issuing board's live register.
- Newly launched operators. Full test within 30 days of launch. Re-tested 60 days later before promotion into the ranked top 10 (if applicable).
Independence
MzansiWins earns commission on some (not all) referred signups. Every commercial link is marked with a rel="sponsored" attribute in the HTML. Commission does not influence a rating. Our top-ranked operator on any given cluster is not always our highest-paying commercial partner, and that gap is deliberately preserved by the scoring rubric. See our affiliate disclosure for the mechanics.
