United found a spark in Europe
Michael Carrick's side lost 2-0 at Chelsea last Saturday after Lisandro Martínez was sent off. On Tuesday they came from 2-0 down to beat Roma 3-2, with Matheus Cunha scoring twice late on.
That ended a nine-game winless run in all competitions, but the league form is still poor. United have scored more than once in only two league games, against Ipswich and Everton.
Bryan Mbeumo has four league goals and Bruno Fernandes has created 19 chances. Fernandes scored a hat-trick in the 5-2 win over Ipswich, still their only league win.
Martínez now serves a one-match ban for that red card. Carlos Baleba hurt his hamstring against Roma, while Benjamin Šeško, Manuel Ugarte and Luke Shaw are also out.
Villa were outclassed in Barcelona
Unai Emery's side drew 1-1 with Fulham last Saturday when Zion Suzuki carried a corner over his own line after Nicolas Jackson had scored. They then lost 3-0 at Barcelona in the Champions League on Tuesday.
Villa have scored ten league goals in nine games, with Jackson responsible for five of them. Four of their league games have finished with two goals or fewer.
Matty Cash is suspended after his fifth league booking, and Amadou Onana and Matteo Ruggeri are injured. Aaron Wan-Bissaka faces a late fitness test, so Victor Lindelöf could move to right-back with Tyrone Mings coming into central defence.
Why we prefer the under
United are 2.14 and Villa 3.15 in the same feed, which tells you neither side is trusted. Two teams with ten goals each in nine games do not usually produce a shootout.
Both squads also played on Tuesday, and Villa's backline is patched up. Under 2.5 covers a 1-0 either way, a 1-1 or a 2-0.
