Boland v Badgers tips: Opening partnerships take centre stage
Boland are our pick in Paarl. They arrive from a tie in Gqeberha that they won in the Super Over, with Lizaad Williams defending the final over as the Warriors finished on 138/7 chasing 139. The Badgers have won two Super 8 games through Janneman Malan's batting, but Boland's bowlers have now delivered in successive matches.

Boland held their nerve in Gqeberha
Boland batted first at St George's Park and made 138/5, with Botha top-scoring on 50 from 47 balls. Kaplan added 26 and Capell 23, so the openers did not repeat their Kingsmead stand.
The Warriors needed eight from the final over, bowled by Williams, and finished level on 138/7. Williams ended with 2/22 from four overs, while Glenton Stuurman took 2/35.
Boland then won the Super Over. The Warriors managed two runs for the loss of two wickets, and Boland scored the four they needed from the first ball.
Capell and Kaplan established control
Boland's openers added 119 at Kingsmead, with Blayde Capell making 90 and Gavin Kaplan 55. The chase finished at 178/3, three balls before the end.
Their powerplay contribution was particularly useful: 59 without loss gave Boland a much stronger opening than the Dolphins, who had been 21/3 at the same stage.
Botha then supplied the finish with 26 not out from 14 balls. His final-over boundaries prevented the work of the openers from being wasted when the target tightened.
Malan has given the Badgers a similar foundation
Malan made 75 from 57 balls against Eastern Storm, sharing an opening stand of 88 with Yaseen Valli. That partnership allowed the Badgers to withstand the later loss of Valli, Modise Maloka and Andile Phehlukwayo.
Malan fell in the 19th over, leaving Liam Alder to finish with 18 not out. The Badgers reached 149/4 in 19 overs after limiting Storm to 144/7.
It was their second successive Super 8 win, following the three-wicket victory over the Titans on 29 October. Boland are therefore facing a side with two recent results, not merely one productive Malan innings.

The new-ball wickets could separate them
Lizaad Williams removed Bryce Parsons and Jason Smith in a maiden against the Dolphins. Together with Glenton Stuurman's dismissal of Romashan Pillay, that left the home side 12/3.
The Badgers' latest chase depended on keeping Malan and Valli together early. Boland's ability to break that opening partnership is the most direct way to prevent the same foundation in Paarl.
There is a threat in the other direction too. Leo Sadler took 3/16 in four overs against Eastern Storm, with Regan Rhode adding two wickets. Boland's openers will not arrive against a bowling side without a recent success.
Boland get the narrow preference
Both sides have combined a substantial opening stand with a late contribution from another batter. The Badgers' two wins make this a closer comparison than their earlier place in the table might imply.
We lean towards Boland because their bowling has delivered in both recent games, from the early burst against the Dolphins to the final-over defence in Gqeberha. Malan's ability to survive that opening spell is central to the visitors' chance.
