Harlequins gave Gloucester repeated attacking lineouts
Harlequins lost 48-0 at Gloucester after trailing 24-0 at half-time. Eight different Gloucester players scored tries, with the home side finding points across the team.
Jason Gilmore's post-match assessment put the penalty count at 21-5 against Quins. He also counted 20 Gloucester lineouts in the attacking red zone compared with five for his own side.
That is a difficult pattern to carry into an away game against Sale. Repeated penalties gave Gloucester both territory and opportunities to attack from close range, rather than forcing them to create everything from deep.
Will Evans' yellow card in the 17th minute made matters worse, with Jac Morgan scoring soon afterwards. Quins never repaired the damage and finished without a point of their own.

Sale found a way through at Saracens
Sale won 21-17 at Saracens through tries from Nathan Jibulu, Tom O'Flaherty and Ben Bamber. George Ford kicked two conversions and Alex Lozowski added another.
O'Flaherty scored after a Ford high ball as Sale built a 21-10 lead. Saracens' late response narrowed the margin, but the visitors held on for their first league win of the campaign.
That followed a 34-24 home defeat by Bristol. O'Flaherty scored twice in that opener and Luke Cowan-Dickie also crossed, giving Sale three tries in each of their first two games.
O'Flaherty's three tries across those matches are a useful part of the handicap case. Sale have a finisher producing regularly, while Quins have allowed Bath and Gloucester a combined 81 points.
Vermeulen's ban weakens the home pack
Jacques Vermeulen received a 20-minute red card at Saracens after making contact with Tomos Williams' head while clearing a ruck. He has since been handed a four-match ban.
Sale will be without him against Harlequins. It removes a back-row option from a side that also spent time with only 13 players at Saracens after Lozowski's yellow card.
Winning despite those cards showed resolve, but another disrupted afternoon would make a 15-point handicap much harder. Sale need to avoid copying the disciplinary problems that have damaged Quins.
The Bristol defeat is another caution. Sale conceded five tries at home, including two each to Louis Rees-Zammit and Harry Randall, before Tomas Gwilliam added the visitors' fifth.
Quins' scoring shortage widens the gap
Harlequins have scored 17 points across their opening two matches. Bath won by 16 and Gloucester by 48, so both opponents have already cleared the winning margin required by our selection.
Sale's three tries at Saracens are a more useful foundation than a narrow home-win price. Quins' repeated penalties offer the home pack a route to attacking possession, while O'Flaherty arrives with tries in both rounds.
Marcus Smith offers Quins a route back
Marcus Smith is back in training after the finger injury he suffered against Edinburgh. Jason Gilmore expects him to return at Sale, provided he completes contact training and the remaining return-to-play checks.
His return would give Quins a much stronger attacking organiser than the side that failed to score at Gloucester. That is the clearest threat to our handicap bet: Sale need a sizeable winning margin against a team expecting its first-choice fly-half back.
Fin Baxter has also returned to training, but Gilmore described this weekend as a stretch following his long-term foot problem. Titi Lamositele is nearing a return after 11 months out, leaving the front row less settled than Quins would like.
Use the three-way -15 market when comparing South African betting sites. Sale must win by 16 or more; a 15-point victory loses this selection.
Verdict
Sale -15 @1.92 at Betway is our half-unit pick. Quins' penalties, lack of points and heavy defeats make the home margin attractive, even with Vermeulen suspended and Sale's own discipline needing improvement.
