We're backing Shreyas Iyer as the match's top batsman @5.80 at Betway. His unbeaten 102 from 43 balls dismantled West Indies in Lucknow, where their four seamers conceded 98 from seven overs without taking a wicket.

Iyer took the game away from West Indies

India were 35-2 when Iyer joined Ishan Kishan in Lucknow. The pair added an unbeaten 137, with Iyer making 102 from 43 balls and Kishan finishing on 37 from 27.

The chase ended at 172-2 after only 14.4 overs. Iyer struck ten fours and six sixes, turning a game with two early wickets into an eight-wicket win with 32 balls remaining.

His scoring was not limited to the faster bowlers. He reached his hundred by hitting Roston Chase over long-on for six, after Chase and Akeal Hosein had removed the openers.

Kishan deliberately fed him the strike during the partnership because Iyer was timing the ball better. That gave the captain enough deliveries to build the biggest innings of the match despite batting behind the openers.

West Indies' seamers could not slow the chase

Matthew Forde conceded 39 from two overs, including 24 in the 14th. Romario Shepherd's two overs cost 24 and Shamar Springer went for 12 from his only over.

Shamar Joseph conceded 23 from two overs. None of those four seamers took a wicket, leaving Hope dependent on Hosein and Chase for both control and breakthroughs.

Hosein finished with 1-37 from four overs and Chase with 1-37 from 3.4. Their early wickets gave West Indies an opening, but neither could dismiss Iyer once he took charge.

Hope wanted more spin options after the game. A change to the bowling balance in Ranchi could make Iyer's next innings harder, although he has just shown he can score against the two spinners who did play.

Hope and Rutherford remain threats to the bet

West Indies reached 171 through half-centuries from Hope and Sherfane Rutherford. Rutherford made 56, giving the visitors two batters capable of building a sizeable innings after early wickets.

They were 44-3 after the powerplay, with Axar Patel delivering a double-wicket maiden. Hope and Rutherford rebuilt well enough to leave India a target before the lower order failed to finish the innings strongly.

Naman Dhir took 3-31 and Axar finished with 2-26. India's spin attack repeatedly interrupted the West Indies innings, which is why we prefer Iyer to a visiting batter at the current prices.

Hope at @6.50 is still a direct rival in this market. The Indian bowlers have to dismiss him or restrict his opportunities as well as deal with Rutherford, rather than assuming the first game's chase removes all West Indies threats.

The openers get first use of India's innings

Abhishek Sharma is @4.30 and Sanju Samson @4.55 in the same match-wide market. Both openers can take scoring opportunities away from Iyer if India chase another manageable target.

Kishan is shorter too at @4.75. His unbeaten partnership with Iyer shows India have another batter capable of remaining in throughout a chase, even if he played the supporting role in Lucknow.

Iyer's @5.80 is longer than all three of those India teammates. We prefer it after his scoring against both types of bowling in Lucknow, particularly with West Indies' four seamers failing to take a wicket between them.

The second T20I starts at 15:30 SAST in Ranchi. Compare the match-wide market across South African betting sites, rather than India's team-only top-batsman selection.

Verdict

Iyer @5.80 at Betway is our half-unit pick. His scoring against both pace and spin gives him a strong case, with India's openers receiving first use of the innings and Hope the clearest opposing threats.
