Key Takeaways
  • England host India in the fifth and final T20I at the Rose Bowl, Southampton, on Saturday 11 July, with a 18:30 local start that is 19:30 SAST.
  • England have already won the series after victories in matches two, three and four, including a 126 run thrashing of India in Bristol on 9 July.
  • We are backing England to close out the series with a fifth strong performance, in a match we expect to be high scoring.

England have already wrapped up this T20I series and arrive at the Rose Bowl full of confidence after battering India by 126 runs in Bristol. This fifth match is a dead rubber, but dead rubbers in white ball cricket are exactly where fringe players put scores on the board. We are siding with England to finish the job at home, with runs the way to back it.

The Form Line

England have dominated this series after a rain hit opener in Chester le Street. They won the second T20I at Old Trafford by four wickets thanks to Jacob Bethell's unbeaten 76, took the third at Trent Bridge by 125 runs, and then bowled India out for just 76 in Bristol to win the fourth by 126 runs.

India have not won a completed match in this series and their batting has fallen away sharply since the Old Trafford defeat, capped by that 76 all out collapse in Bristol. Shreyas Iyer's side head to Southampton simply looking to avoid a series whitewash.

Head to Head

2026India tour of England, 2nd T20IEngland beat India by 4 wickets (Old Trafford)
2026India tour of England, 3rd T20IEngland beat India by 125 runs (Trent Bridge)
2026India tour of England, 4th T20IEngland beat India by 126 runs (Bristol)

England have already secured this series with a match to spare, and the margins in matches three and four suggest a gulf in form right now rather than a series that is close to level.

Team News

India made a change ahead of the third T20I, bringing Prince Yadav in for Ravi Bishnoi, and further rotation looks likely for this dead rubber given the series is already gone. No confirmed lineup news had broken for England by the time of writing, though England sides have historically used the final match of a won series to test fringe players.

Verdict

England go into this one with the series in the bag and the bat and ball form to back it up after two hammerings in a row. We like England to close out the series with a fifth straight completed win, backed by a high scoring match given how comfortably their top order has been finding the boundary.
