Guide

If you are opening a new betting account in South Africa, this is how we rank the payment options. Ozow wins on speed. 1Voucher wins if you do not want the bank involved. Capitec Pay is the quiet efficient one.

The short version
  • Fastest deposits: Ozow, 1Voucher and Capitec Pay
  • No bank account needed: 1Voucher, OTT Voucher, Blu Voucher and Kazang Pay
  • For withdrawals, use an SA bank account. Vouchers are deposit-only

1. Ozow

Ozow is instant EFT done properly. Pick your bank on the sportsbook deposit page, approve the payment in your bank app or online banking, and the funds usually land in under a minute. Ozow supports FNB, Standard Bank, Absa, Nedbank, Capitec, TymeBank, African Bank, Investec and Discovery Bank.

Most sportsbooks do not charge the punter for Ozow. It is accepted by Hollywoodbets, Betway, Supabets and Easybet. The catch: it is deposit-only, so withdrawals go by EFT to your linked bank account.

2. 1Voucher

1Voucher is the broadest prepaid voucher option. Buy one at Pick n Pay, Shoprite, Checkers, SPAR, Boxer, Game or Makro, then enter the PIN in the operator payment screen. Standard denominations run from R10 to R1,000, and the voucher has a 12-month expiry (BetSorted).

It works without a bank account or card. That makes it our most inclusive option, but it does not support withdrawals. Keep the receipt and check whether your operator permits partial redemption.

3. Capitec Pay

Capitec Pay is the default if you bank with Capitec. Select it at the sportsbook, scan the QR code or enter the reference in the Capitec app, then approve the payment. The deposit is instant and has no punter fee.

Availability is growing, including at Hollywoodbets, Gbets and WSB. If you bank elsewhere, Ozow is the simpler choice.

4. Manual EFT

Manual EFT is the dependable fallback. You transfer into the operator bank account using your betting username as the reference. It works with every SA bank and remains useful for larger deposits, although the clearing time can be slower than instant EFT.

Some operators cap Ozow transactions around R25,000 while EFT limits can be higher. Check the operator payment page before sending a larger amount.

5. OTT Voucher

OTT Voucher works like 1Voucher but offers denominations up to R3,000 and a 24-month expiry. Its strongest retail footprint is in Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal. It is cash-friendly and instant once the PIN is entered, but it cannot return a withdrawal.

6. Peach Payments

Peach Payments is a gateway rather than a wallet. It handles Visa, Mastercard and EFT payments at operators including Betway and 10Bet. Card deposits use 3D Secure, so keep your banking phone nearby for the OTP.

If your bank blocks a gambling transaction, speak to the bank first. A failed authorisation does not always mean the operator has a payment problem.

7. Vodacom Pay

Vodacom Pay draws from a Vodacom wallet or airtime balance. It is useful for smaller deposits and settles instantly, but it is limited to Vodacom customers. Withdrawals still go to a bank account.

8. Blu Voucher

Blu Voucher runs from R10 to R1,000 and is expanding across Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal and the Western Cape. It redeems instantly where supported, but has fewer outlets and operator integrations than 1Voucher (BetSorted).

9. Kazang Pay

Kazang Pay works at enabled point-of-sale terminals in spaza shops, convenience stores and selected retailers. It is a cash-in route without a bank account. Check the sportsbook payment page before buying in, because acceptance is narrower than the voucher options.

10. Operator branch deposit

Cash deposits at an operator branch remain an option where the brand has a retail network. It is useful if you are already at the shop, but the digital methods above are faster for most people.

Which method should you use?

Capitec customer: Capitec Pay. Any other SA bank: Ozow. No bank account or no interest in a bank statement record: 1Voucher. Larger deposit: manual EFT. Vodacom wallet user: Vodacom Pay.

What about withdrawals?

Vouchers and mobile airtime routes are deposit-only. You will need an SA bank account to take winnings out, and every licensed sportsbook requires FICA before the first withdrawal. Operator processing time, not the deposit rail, usually determines how quickly the payment arrives.
